32thirty-two Apartments Awarded Best Large Affordable Housing Project by Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers (HAND)
WASHINGTON, DC – June 17, 2014 – 32thirty-two Apartments was recognized on June 16, 2014 at the Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers (HAND) Annual Awards Luncheon by being awarded the Best Large Affordable Housing Project in the Washington, DC Metropolitan region. This project was jointly developed by The Neighborhood Development Company (NDC) and Mi Casa Inc. and completed in the spring of 2013.
HAND (www.handhousing.org) is a 20 plus year old organization that that serves as the only multi-state regional membership association dedicated to supporting the community development industry in its efforts to increase the supply of affordable housing in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The annual awards luncheon is attended by over 1,000 industry professionals and seeks to recognize those individuals and projects that have had the most beneficial impact over the past year. Six prestigious and highly coveted awards were presented at the luncheon this year, including Best Large Affordable Project.
Adrian Washington of NDC and Fernando Lemos of Mi Casa Inc. were both recognized with the presentation of this award. Adrian Washington reflected, “On behalf of the Mi Casa / NDC team and all of the many professionals, public servants and community members that made this project possible I am honored to accept this award. We believe that the 32thirty-two Apartments project has been a tremendous addition to the Park View / Columbia Heights Neighborhood and we are grateful that this achievement has been recognized by our colleagues at HAND.”
32thirty-two Apartments is located at 3232 Georgia Avenue NW in the Parkview/Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC; it contains a mix of affordable one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom units. The building incorporates many green elements, including a unique second floor garden area, green roof deck, and other sustainable development features. In addition to bringing new affordable rental housing to the community, the building’s ground floor level has nearly 11,000 square feet that has nearly been completely leased. The project was developed as a public-private partnership with public and private funding.
The development team includes Grimm + Parker, architects; Hamel Builders, Inc., general contractor; and Klein Hornig LLP and Holland & Knight LLP, attorneys. Financial partners for the project were District of Columbia Housing Finance Agency (DCHFA), the District of Columbia’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), Deputy Mayor’s office for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), Citi Community Capital (Citibank), Wells Fargo Affordable Housing Community Development Corporation and Enterprise Community Loan Fund. The building is being managed by Equity Management.
